Four-hour tug stoppage announced

The Australian Institute of Marine & Power Engineers (AIMPE) has rejected a replacement enterprise agreement proposed by Teekay Shipping (Australia) Pty Ltd for tug employees at Port Hedland, and has given notice of a four-hour stoppage from 0300 to 0700 hours on Saturday 22 November. Teekay has been in negotiation with unions, including AIMPE, over the terms of the agreement for approximately 17 months. Negotiations with the Australian Maritime Officers Union (AMOU) and the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) have concluded following endorsement by the unions' members and Teekay is now in the process of applying to the Fair Work Commission (FWC) for approval of the agreements under the Fair Work Act 2009. A mirror agreement was rejected by the members of AIMPE and notice has been given that the engineers intend to take protected industrial action in the form of a four-hour stoppage from 3am to 7am on Saturday 22 November 2014. The planned stoppage exempts towage operations which are delayed during unforeseen delays and are still underway, and any safety/emergency related issues.
