Expansion 96% complete

The Panama Canal Authority has announced that the Panama Canal expansion project is 96% complete…

…The main activities during the coming months are:
* Continue with locals reinforcements by GUPC, which are scheduled to be completed by mid-January 2016, followed by the testing of locks reinforcements and additional testing.
* Transit tests with a chartered vessel in the Atlantic locks possibly initiating in April, following conversations with GUPC.
* The expansion’s inaugural date will be tentatively scheduled for the second quarter of 2016.
* Thereafter, the commercial opening date will be set.

The ACP [Panama Canal Authority] is expanding the Canal to allow it to continue serving the maritime industry and world shipping and is committed for the long haul. Therefore, quality and testing of the expansion components is critical. The [Authority] will provide updates on the status of the project as progress and information is made available.
