31 Jul 2015 / Panama, Panama Canal
The Panama Canal may apply draft restrictions to transiting vessels in the next few weeks if the level of Lake Gatun reaches 79 feet (current level is about 81.1 feet). It is anticipated that if measures are applied, drafts may be restricted to 38 feet 6 inches initially and probably more if situation deteriorates afterwards. Water conservation measures have already been implemented two weeks ago. If further emergency measures are implemented, the Panama Canal will give four to five weeks notice. The last time restrictive measures were implemented was in 1998. For information about operations in the Panama Canal contact GAC-Wilford & McKay at [email protected]
