Dredging operations in Tuen Mun river channel, Tuen Mun

With immediate effect and for a period of approximately 6 months, dredging operations will be carried out in the Tuen Mun River Channel within the area bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) (A) to (B), (C) to (D) with the adjacent shorelines:

Works Area

(A) 22 deg 23.308’N / 113 deg 58.257’E
(B) 22 deg 23.292’N / 113 deg 58.301’E
(C) 22 deg 22.997’N / 113 deg 58.080’E
(D) 22 deg 23.014’N / 113 deg 58.028’E

The hours of work will be from 0800 to 1900 hours except on Sundays and public holidays.

The works will be carried out by a flotilla of vessels including two bucket pontoons, one backhoe pontoon, one derrick lighter and one split hopper barge. One tugboat and one work boat will provide assistance. The number of vessels engaged in the works will change from time to time to suit operational requirements.

The dredged materials will be conveyed to a split hopper barge anchored within the area bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (E) to (H):

Transshipment Area

(E) 22 deg 22.532’N / 113 deg 58.319’E
(F) 22 deg 22.499’N / 113 deg 58.338’E
(G) 22 deg 22.483’N / 113 deg 58.301’E
(H) 22 deg 22.517’N / 113 deg 58.283’E

Transshipment of dredged materials will take place in this area. A bucket pontoon assisted by a tug will deliver the dredged materials to the split hopper barge from time to time.

A working area of approximately 15 metres will be established around each backhoe pontoon and the derrick lighter. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the positions of the anchors extending from these vessels.

A silt curtain, extending from the sea surface to the seabed, will be established beside the backhoe pontoon. Yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the extent of the silt curtain.

Vessels employed for the works will stay in the works area and the transshipment area outside the hours of work. Vessels engaged in the operations will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations. Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution.
