Dredging Operations in Kwai Tsing Container Basin

With immediate effect and for a period of approximately seven months, dredging operations will be carried out in the following works areas:

Works Area 1: this area is bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (A) to (J):

(A) 22°20.626'N 114°07.258'E

(B) 22°20.254'N 114°07.384'E

(C) 22°20.262'N 114°07.412'E

(D) 22°20.156'N 114°07.448'E

(E) 22°20.148'N 114°07.420'E

(F) 22°19.593'N 114°07.609'E

(G) 22°19.577'N 114°07.554'E

(H) 22°19.523'N 114°07.572'E

(I) 22°19.498'N 114°07.489'E

(J) 22°20.586'N 114°07.119'E

Works Area 2: this area is bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (K) to (N):

(K) 22°20.554'N 114°07.008'E

(L) 22°19.830'N 114°07.254'E

(M) 22°19.790'N 114°07.115'E

(N) 22°20.513'N 114°06.869'E

1. The works will be carried out by one grab dredger and one derrick lighter. Two tugboats and one hopper barge will provide assistance. Vessels engaged in the works will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.

2. A working area of approximately 50 metres around the dredger and lighter will be established. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the positions of the anchors extending from the dredger and lighter.

3. A silt curtain will be established beside the dredger and lighter. The silt curtain is a large piece of netting used to contain mud and sediments. Yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the extent of the silt curtain.

4. The hours of work will be round-the-clock. Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution. 6. A drawing showing the works areas is attached to this Notice. This Notice supersedes Marine Department Notice No. 243/2024.
