Dredging in Shing Mun River Channel, Sha Tin

For approximately 6 months, marine works involving dredging operations will be carried out within the area bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (A) to (H) and the adjacent shorelines:
(A) 22 deg. 23.673’N / 114 deg. 12.420’E
(B) 22 deg. 23.724’N / 114 deg. 12.359’E
(C) 22 deg. 23.764’N / 114 deg. 12.397’E
(D) 22 deg. 23.780’N / 114 deg. 12.378’E
(E) 22 deg. 23.861’N / 114 deg. 12.455’E
(F) 22 deg. 23.845’N / 114 deg. 12.475’E
(G) 22 deg. 23.967’N / 114 deg. 12.591’E
(H) 22 deg. 23.915’N / 114 deg. 12.654’E

The works will be carried out by a flotilla of vessels including one derrick lighter, two hopper barges, two bucket pontoons, one backhoe pontoon, two tugboats and one work boat. The number of vessels engaged in the works will change from time to time to suit operational requirements.

The dredged material will be conveyed to a derrick lighter anchored within a trans-shipment area bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (I) to (L):
(I) 22 deg. 24.941’N / 114 deg. 13.151’E
(J) 22 deg. 24.905’N / 114 deg. 13.194’E
(K) 22 deg. 24.864’N / 114 deg. 13.156’E
(L) 22 deg. 24.901’N / 114 deg. 13.112’E

A working area of approximately 15 metres around each working vessel will be established in the works area and the trans-shipment area. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the positions of the anchors extending from these vessels.

The hours of work will be from 0700 to 1900 hours. No works will be carried out on Sundays and Public Holidays. Vessels employed for the works will stay in the works area and the trans-shipment area outside the hours of work.

A silt curtain, extending from the sea surface to the seabed, will be established around the backhoe pontoon. The silt curtain is a large piece of netting used to contain mud and sediments. Yellow markers fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the extent of the silt curtain.

Vessels engaged in the works will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.

Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution.
