Dredging in Shing Mun River Channel, Sha Tin

For approximately five months, dredging operations are being carried out between 0700 and 1900 in the Shing Mun River Channel.

A flotilla of vessels including three flat-top work barges, one dumb lighter, one hopper barge and two tugboats are conducting the work. The number of vessels engaged in the works will change from time to time to suit operational requirements. Vessels engaged in the works will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.

Dredged materials will be conveyed to the hopper barge anchored within a transshipment area. The lighter assisted by the tugboat will transfer the dredged materials to the hopper barge from time to time.

A working area of approximately 20 metres is established around the working vessels, with yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights marking the positions of their anchors.

Silt curtains are established within the works areas, with yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights laid to mark their extent.

No works are being carried out on Sundays and public holidays. Vessels employed for the works will stay in the works area and transshipment area outside the hours of work.
