Draft change for Canal

Due to recently discovered sand waves just east of Chesapeake City, the maximum draft in the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal has been amended to 31 feet, at any stage of the tide.

The Pilots’ Association for the Bay & River Delaware advise that under special circumstances, having calculated the stage of the tide and with the approval of the MD and DE pilots, the draft may be adjusted upwards on a case-by-case basis.

The new draft restriction will remain in effect until the Army Corps of Engineers confirm that the area has been cleared to 33 feet.
