Dock workers’ strike update (8 July)

08 Jul 2025 / Mumbai & Cochin, India

Following yesterday’s announcement of a one-day strike on 10 July at Mumbai, dock workers have declared they will also strike at Cochin.

At Mumbai, cargo operations are unlikely to be affected as most operations involve private stevedores and labour. However, operations at Cochin are likely to be impacted.

So far, no strike notice has been served by the union at other major ports.

The ports of Hazira, Dahej, Mundra, Gmb Ports, Karaikal, Kattupali, Krishnapatnam, Gangavaram, Kakinada, Dhamra, etc. will not be affected as they are privately operated.

No immediate disruption to operations is anticipated for arriving tanker vessels and liquid bulk cargoes as these commodities are handled at exclusive berths/terminals where discharge takes place through pipeline connectivity and manual intervention is minimal.
