Deployment of floating crane

Kolkata Dock System has deployed a floating crane to handle containers/dry bulk/breakbulk cargo at the Diamond Jarbour Anchorage and other deep water anchorages within the limits of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port to facilitate lightening/topping up operations.

The authorized operator and licensee of the floating crane can deploy four barges, each with a capacity of about 70 TEUs, to move containers between anchorage and the docks. Charges for cargo transfer by floating crane will be imposed in the terms of Section 6 of the port’s Scale of Rates. Barging services will bed governed by the upfront tariff for stevedoring and shore handling operations at Kolkata Sock System.

Vessel requiring floating crane services must declare their arrival to the port at least seven days before scheduled ETA, indicating the quantity to be lightened/topped up. Vessels which are ready will be considered for deployment of the floating crane according to seniority, determined by reporting of the vessel’s time and adherence to the declared timeline.
