Cyclone response procedure activated

The Port Hedland cyclone response procedure has been activated. The port is now at Cyclone alert Stage 2 – Prepare.

As of 1500 WST 22 January, the Bureau of Meteorology issued guidance forecast for Tropical Low 12U. The system is forecast to take a south-westerly track over the coming days, and continue to track parallel to the Pilbara coast over the coming days with the chance of a coastal crossing in the vicinity of Port Hedland becoming less likely.

The following actions should be taken / have been implemented:
- Regular communications with terminal operators and key service providers remains ongoing
- Terminals with ships alongside are to ensure vessel load plans are actively monitored
- Port authority will not approve any main engine immobilisation requests
- Terminal cyclone plans should be activated consistent with PPA expectations
