Customs issue guidelines in case of West Coast disruption

With the current contract between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) expiring at midnight on Monday (30 July), U.S. Customs has published interim procedures in the case of work stoppage. Trade groups representing manufacturers, retailers and transportation providers have urged both sides to wrap up negotiations over a new West Coast longshore labor contract before expiry. In reaction to the drawn-out negotiations, U.S. Customs has published interim procedures in the case of work stoppage. When these interim procedures come into effect, they will be published at www.cbp.gov/newsroom/news/advisories/ubrm. Affected West Coast ports will designate a point of contact for trade inquiries about specific procedures for each port, which will also be posted. Customs will also transmit new information through the Cargo System Messaging Service (apps.cbp.gov/csms/csms.asp). For information about operations in the USA contact GAC USA at [email protected]
