Cruise ship grey water/sewage dumping

From 2016 onwards, the Port of Helsinki will apply new waste management pricing model to intensify the use of the available grey water/sewage treatment facilities.

Cruise ships that continue to dump grey water or sewage into fragile Baltic Sea instead of shore side facilities at the port will be subject to higher waste management fees.

Further, by bringing waste waters ashore, normal waste management a fee will be applied, thus offering a financial incentive for cruise lines to bring waste waters ashore.

As per the Port of Helsinki’s price list for 2016 received today, the new waste management fee will be charged as follows:

If grey water/sewage is not discharged in the Port of Helsinki:
NRT x 0,1610 (min EUR 300,-, max EUR 3800,-)

If grey water/sewage is discharged in the Port of Helsinki:
NRT x 0,1288 (min EUR 240,-, max EUR 3040,-)
