Containership rebate on Canal tolls

13 May 2025 / Suez Canal, Egypt

The Suez Canal Authority has announced a 15% rebate on tolls for containerships over 130,000 SC NRT.

According to the Authority’s Circular No.3/2025, in light of the current positive developments in the security situation in the Red Sea and Bab Al-Mandab Strait, the rebate will be granted for laden or ballast containerships with Suez Canal net tonnage of 130,000 tons or above transiting the waterway in either direction. It will be directly granted upon transit without the need to submit any requests or documents.

This applies to containerships transiting the Suez Canal starting from 15 May 2025, and for a period of 90 days.

The rebate percentage is calculated from normal transit dues stipulated by the transit dues table + surcharges levied on tiers of containers.

Suez Canal Net Tonnage refers to the basic Suez Canal Net Tonnage without any additions temporary added upon transit (for example, double bottom tanks, temporary stores, etc.).
