Coal terminal suspends shipping movements

Shipping movements at Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal in the port of Hay Point have been suspended due to a Strong Wind Warning and excessive moisture levels at port stockpiles as a safety precaution.

The berthing of vessels will be reviewed again tomorrow morning.

The Port of Hay Point is not officially closed by the Harbour Master, as this is only a terminal decision.

A broad area of low pressure lies over inland tropical Queensland, leading to a mostly northwest to northeasterly wind flow extending through North Queensland waters. A slow moving surface trough lies just offshore of Bowen, with a fresh to strong southeasterly wind flow extending over areas west and south of the trough. The trough will move northwards over the next few days, most likely reaching Cooktown waters by late Monday and Cape Melville by Tuesday afternoon.
