Channel closure

Yesterday morning (7 February), it was reported that a partially submerged push boat under tow in the Corpus Christi ship channel had fully sunk and was in the vicinity of light 33. The boat is marked by a PFD (lifejacket) tied to the boat.

Two outbound vessels were diverted to the MODA Midstream Terminal, and the channel was closed to all traffic.

According to the Marine Safety Information Bulletin 16-20 issued by the Captain of the Port, due to the submerged vessel at approximate position 27 deg. 48’56”N, 097 deg. 12’13”W, a safety zone was established from gated pair lights 31, 31 and gated pair lights 37, 38 through which no vessel shall transit without permission from the U.S. Coast Guard.
