The cause of filtration and leaks at one of the new locks in the Pacific sector of the Panama Canal has been identified, according to reports.
The consortium GUPC has advised the Panama Canal Authority that the leaks were caused by a design fault. This is being addressed by draining the lock, which has been undergoing testing, and placing steel bars and sealant on the problem areas. Once the repairs are complete, work will start on the Atlantic side with repairs being made on both sides to prevent future problems.
GUPC say the project will still be completed by April 2016.
