Category 2 Tropical Cyclone Trevor forecast to intensify

Tropical Cyclone Trevor is located over water in the eastern Gulf of Carpentaria, within 30km of 14.1 deg. South, 140.3 deg. East and 175km west southwest of Aurukun, and moving southwest at 12km per hour. It is currently a Category 2 Tropical Cyclone with sustained winds near the centre of 110km per hour and wind gusts to 155km per hour.

Trevor is forecast to intensify further and continue its southwest movement today (22 March) and is likely to cross the Northern Territory coast tomorrow as a Category 4 severe tropical cyclone.

The Port of Gove is now at Condition Red and closed until at least Monday. The Port of Groote Eylandt is being evacuated and the port is closed.

At the Port of Weipa, however, the Yellow Alert has been lifted this morning and the port is returning to normal operations.
