Cargo and trading operations resume

Tropical Low 29U is expected to move to the southwest and cross the coast between Cairns and Ingham today (6 March) and it is unlikely that it will develop into a tropical cyclone before it crosses the coast.

Cargo or trading operations at the port of Cairns & Halfmoon Bay may resume. Small vessels may also resume operations.

Further, the Regional Harbour Master advises that:

  • Vessel operators and owners should review their safety plans and address outstanding matters.
  • Mariners should closely monitor forecasts and Regional Harbour Master advice.
  • Ships’ masters should be advised of the situation and place a short notice to sail, obtain information on length of time to bring ships to a readiness to sail and inform Regional Harbour Master to ascertain suitable sailing times and draft requirements.
  • Mariners are advised to navigate with caution maintaining a sharp look out for debris.
