Cable laying operations

Submarine cable laying operations are being conducted from Tseung Kwan O to Eastern Boundary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region for approximately seven months, starting from June.

The work is being carried out round-the-clock by a special purpose vessel, a flat top work barge and a dumb lighter, with assistance from two tugboats and a transportation boat. The number of vessels engaged in the works will change from time to time to suit operational requirements. Vessels engaged in the works display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.

A working area of approximately 100 metres around the working vessels is established with yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights to mark the positions of their anchors.

A silt curtain, extending from the sea surface to the seabed, will be established beside the flat-top work barge, with yellow flashing lights to mark its extent.

Diving operations will be carried out from time to time during the hours of work. Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution and keep clear of the works area at slow speed, bearing in mind that there are diving operations in the area.
