Barge & pontoon moorings and pier closure for New Year celebrations

In connection with the upcoming Mayor of London New Year Celebrations, works will be undertaken in Lambeth Reach to support the mooring of event barges and pontoons.

PLA Marine Services personnel and vessels will remove the County Hall Passive Driftwood Collector (PDC) on or after 15 December 2025, and install four temporary moorings upstream of Waterloo Pier, which will each be marked with small lit buoys with the light characters of (FI Y 2 (5s)).

On 31 December, three barges will be moved into their positions:
1. Campion’s mooring;
2. Waterloo Millennium Pier; and
3. The temporary moorings at County Hall PDC.

In addition, four pontoons will be moved into their positions:
-Three moored between Campion’s moorings and Waterloo Millennium Pier; and
- One moored between the County Hall barge and Waterloo Millennium Pier.

Waterloo Millennium Pier will be closed to vessels from 15:30 on 31 December and will remain closed to vessels until after the New Year Celebration event is completed and all the related vessels and equipment have been removed from the pier and vicinity.

The temporary moorings will be removed, and the County Hall PDC returned to its customary position, in January 2026.

During the works described above, requirements to proceed with caution or at slow speed will be made in accordance with the procedure set out in the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘Speed Reductions’, with the International Code Flags ‘Romeo Yankee’ displayed…
