Availability of anchorages during monsoon period 2024

07 May 2024 / Mumbai, India

During the monsoon season from 25 May to 31 August, the anchorage area in Mumbai's inner harbor is restricted to a foul weather VI limit line, north of the Sunk Rock Lighthouse. This means fewer anchorages south of this line, including those for cargo operations. Mumbai Port Authority will try to accommodate vessels but may have to deny anchorage due to limited space. Cargo working berths are given on a first-come-first-serve basis, while other anchorages are for short periods and specific work at Mumbai. Vessels with no work are advised to find shelter elsewhere. Dumb barges and craft without engines must have standby tugs for assistance and towing gear ready for emergencies during anchorage.
