Additional safety measures during bridge works

Additional sea traffic and navigational safety measures have been implemented as a result of a technical problem encountered over the course of the ongoing Gebze-Izmir Highway Gulf of Izmit Passage Bridge Superstructure Works (in the Gulf of Izmit), on the territorial waters between Cape of Dil and Cape of Kaba. According to the Kocaeli Port Authority's Navigation Warning, the width of previously-declared safe navigation lock surrounded by buoys has been reduced from 1000 meters to 650 meters, and buoys has been re-located to the newly-arranged coordinates, as follows: (R: Red buoys G: Green buoys) R-1 40 deg. 45'.48 K - 029 deg. 30'.19 D G-1 40 deg. 45'.010 K - 029 deg. 30'.019 D R-2 40 deg. 45'.441 K - 029 deg. 30.748'D G-2 40 deg. 45'.072 K - 29 deg. 30'.617 D R-3 40 deg. 45'.408 K - 029 deg. 31'.374 D G-3 40 deg. 45'.009 K - 29 deg. 31'.222 D This is a provisional arrangement. Once the situation on the bridge has been restored, the buoys will be returned to their former locations and navigation lock will be extended back. However, during this period, in order to ensure navigational safety; - During the daytime, except for specific circumstances (too heavy tonnage vessels) maritime traffic in East-West direction will be maintained in two-way, but vessels will navigate far from the middle duct and closer to navigation lock. - At night, one-way sea traffic is allowed between above-referred buoys; vessels to navigate in such a manner that they do not come by each other; - Coordination of maritime traffic will be managed by Deka-Medmarine Consortium, authorized pilotage and towage organization in the region. All vessels (including guided, unguided and military vessels) will always follow the instructions to be sent through wireless (WHF) channel 16 and 12; - All vessels navigating in this region will have uninterrupted listening to wireless (WHF) channel 16 and 12; - All vessels have open and active Automatic Identification System (AIS); - A patrol boat responsible for warning the vessels all night long will be deployed by the responsible firm, IHI; all warnings and communications made by this patrol boat shall be considered as instructions of our Authority, and the same shall be strictly obeyed; - Vessels will never anchor within the said region including emergency cases; - Vessels, before navigating in the region, will absolutely conduct engine tests and check their navigation-related equipment including steering systems, lanterns, horns, VHG (wireless), automatic identification system (AIS), etc., and will record that the same are all in working order and good condition in their respective logbook.
