Sweden - GAC Pindar and skipper Ian Williams have seized victory on the final day of last weekend’s M32 Series Scandinavia in Gothenburg.

At the start of the final day GAC Pindar were a distant second to an ascendant US One team, but brilliant performances from Williams and his crew – Brad Farrand, Mark Bulkeley and Garth Ellingham - saw them battle back to clinch the deciding races in dominant fashion.

After a slower start on Day one and Two, Williams and the GAC Pindar team had shown steady improvement through the regatta.

A tight race course requiring good boat handling only played to the team’s strengths, meaning Ian Williams and GAC Pindar were able to take successive top three positions to claim a spot in the final races.

Breezy conditions in the final race meant that Swedish-based Essiq Racing, one of the favourites to win, lost control at the first rounding. The GAC Pindar crew took advantage of the mistake and built an unassailable lead that gave them the win – and double points – in the race.

That was enough for GAC Pindar to pip US One to the post and claim the Gothenburg event with 37 points to US One’s 42.

US One still maintain an overall series lead, but this victory for Williams and his crew will only serve to ensure a hard-fought competition in the coming races and secured the team a second place overall.

The next stage of the M32 Series Scandinavia will be held in Aarhus, Denmark, followed by an event in Helsinki, Finland, before the culmination of the series in Stockholm, Sweden in September.
