"Greatest day of my career so far" says GAC golfer

Dubai, January 27th 2013 – A breath-taking eagle on the last hole from GAC golfer Chris Wood secured victory in the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters making him the first Englishman to win the prestigious tournament.

Wood’s victory in his 4th appearance meant he is the first golfer to win with an eagle three since Matteo Manassero beat Louis Oosthuizen in a play-off at the 2012 Barclays Singapore Open.

Wood now moves up to fourth place in The Race to Dubai with €314,598 and his triumph secured places in the 2013 WGC – Bridgestone Invitational, 2013 WGC – HSBC Champions and 2014 Volvo Golf Champions.

"To start with a three shot lead, lose it and then have to eagle the last hole to win, made it comfortably the greatest day of my career so far," says the thrilled golfer.

"My first win on the European tour would not have been possible without the backing of many people, in particular my sponsors like GAC. My win in Qatar was extra sweet for GAC, which has its headquarters in the Middle East, so I was able to reward them on their home turf. And I will be going all out to make it a win-double when the tour reaches Dubai this week."

William Hill, GAC Executive Group Vice President – Commercial, was delighted at Wood’s performance: "Chris Wood’s victory is a vindication of GAC’s support of young sportsmen. We wish him and other GAC golfers the best in the upcoming tournaments."

Fellow GAC Ambassador, South African George Coetzee, finished as a runner-up in Qatar. He says: "Of course, I was disappointed to settle for runners-up position, but it was a case of Chris winning rather than me losing. The experience will make me stronger and I hope to claim my own first European Tour win very soon."
