New travels for historic train carriages

Two carriages from the iconic Orient Express rail locomotive have completed another journey – but this time it was under the care of GAC Singapore’s logistics team.

The wagons dating back to the 1860s and 1930s have been on display at Singapore’s Gardens By The Bay since July 2021 as part of the “Once upon a time on the Orient Express” pop-up attraction produced by Lydie Blandeau and the Paris museum team from IMA Institut du Monde Arabe.

When the time came to return them to France, GAC Singapore was entrusted with the logistics, with the approval of the French Ministry of Culture.

Jorgen Nielsen, General Manager Logistics at GAC Singapore says it took meticulous planning to ensure that the precious cargo that weighed close to 200 tonnes were loaded onto a Ro-Ro vessel for their sea voyage back to Europe.

"Kudos to the whole team whose skills, experience and extensive planning made this move so successful and stress-free for our customer."
