Temporary draft restriction

Due to shoaling in the main channel as a result of Hurricane Irma, the Canaveral Port Authority and the Canaveral Pilots Association are implementing a temporary draft restriction for all vessels calling on Port Canaveral. Effective immediately, the maximum allowable draft in the Port is 38’ (11.6M).

Additionally, the Canaveral Port Authority Harbormaster office, in accordance with the Canaveral Pilots Association, reserve the right to require any vessels with a draft of over 36’ (11.0M) to a tide-restricted transit of the channel. (Note that these temporary restrictions are based on channel surveys performed by Land & Sea Surveying)

The Canaveral Port Authority engaged the Army Corps of Engineers, Dutra Dredging, and Land & Sea Surveying prior to the arrival of Irma in the event that shoaling did occur. They have maintained contact ever since and are actively working with each group to expedite the correction of the channel deficiencies.
