The Kiel Canal Authority has advised that due to necessary maintenance and work to exchange the lockgate, the New Big North lock in Kiel will be closed from 0730 hours local time on Tuesday 24 January until Friday 27 January.
During this time only one big lock chamber will be in operation in Kiel. If operations go well, the lock will be reopened earlier.
The New Big North Lock in Brunsbuettel will also be closed for maintenance from 0700 to 1500 hours local time on Tuesday 24 January.
Depending on number of vessels in west- and eastbound traffic heading towards the Kiel Canal, delays are to be expected.
