Amendments to Dangerous Goods handling rules

The Merchant Shipping (Local Vessels) (General) (Amendment) Regulation 2022 (the “Amendment Regulation”) will come into operation on 1 November 2022 to implement the amendments to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code) as stipulated in resolution MSC.477(102) adopted by the International Maritime Organization. The following amendments made by the Amendment Regulation are applicable to local vessels engaged in maritime transport of dangerous goods:
(a) amendments to and updates of some definitions;
(b) various amendments to classification chapters such as introducing criteria;
(c) several changes to segregation groups, instructions and provisions;
and
(d) updates of packaging, marking and labelling of dangerous goods.
