London, United Kingdom – A four-man team of GAC cyclists has raised more than GBP 3,000 for one of the world’s largest seafarers’ welfare charities by taking part in the recent Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 event.
Neil Godfrey, Simon Morris, Andro Dutoit and Simon Doran joined 26,000 riders who completed the 100-mile ride through closed roads from central London and the leafy lanes of Surrey, then back again. And by racking up their miles in the saddle, they raised funds for the Sailors’ Society, of which the GAC Group is a long-time supporter.
The Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 annual event celebrates the legacy for cycling created by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It started at the Olympic Park specially constructed for the 2012 Games and took the riders through city streets, suburban towns and open countryside with some real leg-testing climbs. All on a route made famous by the world’s best cyclists who competed in the 2012 Olympics, and finishing back in central London on the Mall, leading to Buckingham Palace.
It was the latest in a tradition of summer sporting events members of GAC staff undertake in the name of charity.
Neil Godfrey says: “Once again, we wanted to challenge ourselves by taking part in what is becoming a major event on the cycling calendar, and all for a good cause – the Sailors’ Society, which GAC has a long history of supporting.”
