Renewed community commitment marks 40 years in the country
Muscat, 6th December 2012: As GAC celebrates 40 years in Oman, its local company is renewing its commitment to community causes and social responsibility, by aiding efforts to fund a mobile library to take books into remote towns and villages.
GAC Oman is supporting the Women’s Guild in Oman’s (WGO) annual Crystal Ball to raise money for the ‘Let’s Read Book Bus’ – a project that will take a collection of books to Oman’s towns and villages. Children and older readers will be able to borrow books and return them on the mobile library’s next visit.
“During its four successful decades in Oman, GAC has built strong ties with the community,” says General Manager, Daniel Nordberg. “We want to give something back to society - we see it as a way of expressing our gratitude and solidarity with the people of Oman.
“The ‘Let’s Read Book Bus’ will bring a treasure trove of books to families in remote areas far from Oman’s main cities. Access to reading material is very important for children, and this initiative will stimulate young minds and win hearts.
“We are delighted to support organisations like the WGO and projects like the “Let’s Read Book Bus’, that share our desire to give something back to the community and we look forward to supporting business and social development in Oman for many years to come.”
The 2012 Crystal Ball, which marks the event’s 10th year anniversary, will be held today, in the Amphitheatre at Shangri La’s Barr al Jissah Resort & Spa. 850 guests are expected, including key decision makers and influencers from the corporate world.
WGO President Sally Sleep says: “The Women’s Guild in Oman is committed to working with both the public and private sector to raise funds for charitable causes. We are delighted to have the support of GAC Oman as sponsors of our tenth anniversary Crystal Ball to raise funds for an initiative that will reach out and make a world of difference to children and families in remote areas.”
Other charities the WGO has been associated with over the years includes the Autism Society and the Diabetes Society. It has also donated a ventilator for premature babies – the first in the Sultanate – to a local hospital.
