Chicago, USA, 2 October 2017 – GAC Pindar skipper and six times Match Racing World Champion Ian Williams and his crew defeated reigning champion Phil Robertson to win the Chicago Match Cup, the fifth and penultimate event in this year’s tour, on Sunday 1 October.
The GAC Pindar team - Williams, Richard Sydenham, Paul Campbell-James and Will Ryan - have finished in the top three in the past four events and are currently in overall second place.
Williams paid tribute to his team mates, saying: “This is great for the team. Phil’s been dominating all year making us all look a bit silly so it’s nice to knock him off his perch.”
The next event will be in Shenzhen, China, from 24 to 29 October. The final venue in the tour, it will decide who will win the overall 2017 Tour and the Match Racing World Championship.
The win in Chicago is another feather in the cap for Williams, coming as it does just two weeks after winning the M32 Series Scandinavia.
