The GAC Hope School was formed in 2009 when GAC Shanghai joined forces with the local Longnan Primary School to create the 'Green Bamboo' scheme to provide a basic education for children from rural areas whose parents work in the city. Under the scheme, GAC provides material support for the school, and the staff regularly interacts with the children through special days devoted to games, environmental education and hygiene.
After the graduation of the first class of Green Bamboo pupils, Claus Schensema, Managing Director of GAC Forwarding & Shipping (Shanghai) Ltd, said: "We are heartened that, despite their disadvantaged backgrounds, these students have such a positive outlook on life, reflecting the GAC 'can-do' spirit. They have not been disheartened by adversity but have continued to excel in their studies."
Longnan School schoolmistress, Holly Wei added: "The genuine love of all our friends in GAC has accompanied our children over the past three years, and I believe the seed of hope planted by our friends will bloom in the future. I would like to express my sincere thanks to our dear friends of GAC."
