Ship agency deal announced ahead of Seatrade
Grangemouth, UK, 20 August 2015 – PONANT Yacht Cruises & Expeditions has appointed GAC UK as its agent for all United Kingdom and Ireland port calls in 2016.
PONANT’s 142m and 132 cabin megayachts ‘Le Boréal’ and ‘L’Austral’ will cruise around the British Isles and Ireland, including the Scilly Isles, Shetlands, Dublin, Liverpool and Scottish Highlands in May and June next year.
Growing business
Fergus Poole, GAC UK’s newly appointed Cruise Manager, says the high prestige business is a boost to GAC’s growing cruise operations in and around the UK and Ireland.
“Our appointment by such a discerning, exclusive cruise company is testament to the faith they have in us to deliver quality service and meet their every need. We look forward to welcoming ‘Le Boréal’ – the European Cruiser Association’s Best New Ship of the Year in 2010 – to the UK and Ireland next year, as well as ‘L’Austral’, especially when she takes her place alongside HMS Belfast on the River Thames in London in May.”
Marc Berberian, PONANT’s Port Operations Manager, says GAC’s recently enhanced support for the cruise sector in and around the British Isles, and its well established port agency infrastructure, were key factors in the selection of the company.
“We were impressed by the frontline expertise available within GAC, both in port operations and in niche sectors like bunker fuels, marine leisure and superyachts. This, together with strong local and global networks, and a business philosophy that has long term relationships as one of its core principles, made GAC the right choice for PONANT.”
Pan-European presence
Poole, who was appointed to drive GAC UK’s cruise business in May, added that GAC’s value-added services such as shore expeditions and other related support have been well received by clients throughout Europe. These services, amongst others will be showcased at Seatrade in Hamburg next month, where our GAC’s pan-European team of cruise experts from northernmost Norway to the southern Mediterranean will be in attendance.
