GAC sends iconic London buses to Tokyo
Southampton, UK: They used to travel the streets of London, but now they’re ready for a new lease of life in Japan as the country prepares for the 2020 Olympic Games – thanks to GAC.

Two classic red 1960s Routemaster buses, weighing in at 7 tonnes each, were the latest to be sent on their way by GAC UK. They started their long journey from the port of Southampton on the south coast of England, being loaded onto the Wallenius Wilhelmsen vessel ‘Porgy’ heading for Chiba.
The Routemaster bus is a London icon, recognisable around the world for its distinctive design and bright red livery. The two that GAC sent to a customer involved in the Japanese tourist trade, will join 30 Routemasters already in service in the country.
Dominic Watson, GAC’s Operations Manager – Seafreight based in Southampton, says: "It’s good to know that these excellent examples of classic London buses will soon be gracing the streets of Tokyo, ahead of the Olympic Games in six years’ time.
"They are just two of the many new and vintage buses we have helped send from the UK to various locations around the world. We have the specialist knowledge and experience when it comes to shipping these increasingly rare buses."
