GAC UK Port Updates

Port activities may have been disrupted by measures taken to control the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. Keep up-to-date with the status of UK ports here. Please contact us at uk@gac.com or your local branch for more details before making arrangements.

Aberdeen - All vessels are required to declare an MDH before vessel arrival along with the following info -  Any persons unwell during the voyage and/ or on arrival, and any sanitary measures taken in response to that illness / Origin of the ship, when it left the origin port, and all ports where the vessel has docked during the 14 days prior to arrival / Any crew changes involving people from risk areas . Otherwise currently operating as normal and following their own contingency plan.

Birkenhead - Ports operational, essential visitors only.

Blyth - Ports operational, essential visits only.

Braefoot Bay - only allowing emergency crew changes and those will be dealt with on case by case basis.

Bristol - Maritime Declaration of Health required from vessel before arrival and forwarded to port and local port health authority. Crew Changes - No Restrictions. Visitors / Ship Inspection – No Restrictions.

Cardiff - All crew changes currently permitted. Stevedores not doing cargo meeting in ship office, any conversation with ship’s crew will be on deck or on jetty keeping social distance of 2m.

Dover - Currently operating as normal following advice / legislation from Government.

Dundee - All vessels are required to declare an MDH before vessel arrival. Local guidance on pilot embarkation and safe distances, and also all surfaces for a pilot boarding must be cleaned that a pilot may come in to contact with on the vessel. Otherwise currently operating as normal (following advice / legislation from Government).

Falmouth - All crew changes permitted currently. Maritime Declaration of Health required from vessel before arrival and forwarded to port and local port health authority.

Fawley - Arrival and departure notification required 24hrs prior to movement.

Felixstowe - Business as usual. MDH to be submitted prior to call through agents.

Flotta - No crew changes permitted and MDH to be submitted as part of PAI.

Glasgow / Clydebank - Working on a case by case basis for vessel arrivals. MDH to be submitted for every cruise boat and vessels arriving from foreign ports.

Grangemouth - Ineos LPG & Hound Point not allowing crew changes.

Ineos Jetties - latest rules (crew changes still permitted at this time):

Ship/Shore Safety Check-List and Pre-Cargo Operations Meeting: Where possible the Chief Officer (or other responsible officer) will be invited ashore to complete the above paperwork and meeting in the Jetty Head Office.  On J4 where there is no Jetty Office, the meeting and paperwork will be completed on board the vessel but this should be accomplished with minimum interface with ship’s staff. The meeting should be with one technician and one member of ship’s staff preferably in an isolated room on board the vessel

Marine Arm/Hose Connection and Disconnection: Shore technicians will complete marine arm or hose connections and disconnections as normal, with any ship’s crew remaining at least 2m apart from shore staff.

Repetitive Safety Checks: Shore technicians will complete repetitive safety checks at least every six hours whilst the vessel is alongside. Ship and shore personnel will sign and date their own checklists with no requirement for counter signature by the other party. Repetitive checks will only be carried out on open decks with no entry to ship’s accommodation block. Any accompanying ship’s staff should maintain at least 2m separation from shore staff. Upon completion of a repetitive check, contact the ship by radio with results and any comment.

Agents/Visitors: Ship’s agents will be discouraged from attending vessels at Grangemouth Jetties and asked where possible to service the vessels remotely. Visitor to ships at Grangemouth jetties will be restricted to essential personnel only and may be prohibited by ship’s alongside.

Great Yarmouth - All vessels must have submitted the required Maritime Declaration of Health to the local Port Heath Authority.

Greenock - Business as normal. MDH to be submitted for every cruise boat and vessels arriving from foreign ports.

Grimsby - Ports operational. Essential visits only.

Hartlepool - Ports operational, Essential visitors only. Working day-shifts only 07:00 - 18:00 hrs Mon - Sat.

Harwich - Business as usual. MDH to be submitted prior to call through agents.

Hull - Ports operational. Essential visits only.

Immingham - Ports operational. Essential visits only.

Invergordon - All vessels are required to declare an MDH before vessel accepted and pilot boarding. Otherwise currently operating as normal (following advice / legislation from Government).

Ipswich - Health Declaration doc needs to be collected from security gates at West Bank or Cliff Quay and completed by all visitors prior to being allowed entry to the port.

Kirkwall - Business as usual - MDH to be submitted alongside usual PAI.

Leith - All vessels are required to declare an MDH before vessel arrival. Local guidance on pilot embarkation and safe distances, and also all surfaces for a pilot boarding must be cleaned that a pilot may come in to contact with on the vessel. Otherwise currently operating as normal (following advice / legislation from Government).

Lerwick - Business as usual. MDH to be submitted prior to call through agents.

Liverpool - Ports operational. Essential visits only.

Lowestoft - Business as usual. MDH to be submitted prior to call through agents

Montrose -All vessels are required to declare an MDH before vessel arrival. Additional Pilot Boarding procedures also in place. Otherwise currently operating as normal (following advice / legislation from Government).

Newport - MDH required from vessel before arrival and forwarded to port and local port health authority. Crew Changes - No Restrictions. Visitors / Ship Inspection – No Restrictions. Stevedores not doing cargo meeting in ship office, any conversation with ship’s crew will be on deck or on jetty keeping social distance of 2m.

Nigg - No Cruise calls for April. All vessels are required to declare an MDH before vessel accepted and pilot boarding. Otherwise currently operating as normal (following advice / legislation from Government).

Orkney - Business as usual. MDH to be submitted alongside usual PAI.

Pembroke - Crew changes not permitted. Only South Hook LNG terminal allowing crew changes. No other terminals permitting it. Launches still going ahead as usual. VPOT are not attending ships with docs. All on e-mail. Not signing BLs for internal Valero cargoes. Verbal confirmation by VHF Ch11 that no COVID-19 symptoms on board required prior to approaching port limits. Verbal exchange between Master and Pilot on Ch11 prior to pilot boarding. MDH also required.

Peterhead - All vessels are required to declare an MDH before vessel arrival. Additional Pilot Boarding procedures also in place. Otherwise currently operating as normal (following advice / legislation from Government).

Portsmouth - Business as usual. MDH to be submitted alongside usual PAI.

Rosyth - Port Babcock Rosyth completely shutdown - only critical teams onsite, therefore not accepting any vessels. Only critical teams onsite, therefore not accepting any vessels. Forth ports side business as usual.

Scalloway - Due to the ongoing Covid 19 crisis we have had to take measures to ensure staff and public safety during these difficult times, as such the Scalloway Harbour Office will be closed to visitors. Any customers requiring any services must phone the harbour office on 01595744221 with as much notice as possible (forklift jobs, linesmen etc may take longer than normal to be available as staff will only be called in for each individual operation). During any operations we ask that all customers strictly adhere to social distancing methods and stay at least 2m away from staff to protect us all. Vessels should try contacting us on CH14 in the first instance and by phone if there is no response. Customers with any questions should call the office and we will endeavour to do our best for your needs in a safe manner.

Scapa - Business as usual. MDH to be submitted alongside usual PAI.

Southampton - Business as usual. MDH to be submitted alongside usual PAI. Arrival and departure notification required 24hrs prior to movement.

Sullom Voe - Until further notice there will be no shore leave. All normal crew changes should be avoided if possible. If there is a requirement then each individual case will be given due consideration; all requests should be placed through the Ships agent. Any routine medical or dental visits can be requested through the ships agent with range of symptoms given. The agent will then contact the relevant people to see if a visit is required and if it can be arranged. Any urgent medical need that may arise due accident or sudden illness onset to crew member while ship is in port, will be dealt with as always as an emergency, and the Terminal will respond immediately to this.

Sunderland -Ports operational. Essential visits only

Tees - Ports operational, essential visitors only. All Tanker terminals working as normal, Tees Dock working day-shifts only 07:00 - 18:00 hrs Mon - Sat.

Thames area - MDH to be submitted prior to call through agents. Tilbury - No crew disembarking permitted whilst vessels alongside unless an emergency. London Gateway - MDH to be submitted prior to call through agents / This must be accompanied by a list of Ports of call and details of any passengers or crew who have joined the vessel in the past 14 days (including country). These documents should be sent 12 – 24 hours before the vessels arrival. Isle of Grain - Only essential visitors permitted. Visitor names / details to be submitted by GAC Agent 24hrs prior to arrival.

Tyne - Ports operational, essential visits only

STS Operations

Gibraltar - STS available - business as usual

Scapa  - Remains open for STS operations as long as there is manning availability for tugs, mooring master etc

Southwold - STS available - business as usual. Maritime Declaration of Health required to be submitted to Lowestoft Port Control. Launch provider restricting number of passengers to four per launch.

Sullom Voe - STS available - business as usual

Crew Changes

  • London City Airport closed until end April.
  • Highlands and Islands Airports operating restricted schedule but oil and gas flights to continue.
  • Norwich airport operating with reduced hours (08:00-18:00 7 days a week).
  • London Gatwick - flights to most destinations are either cancelled or running a very limited schedule. The North Terminal is temporarily closed and all flights are now operating from South Terminal.
  • All other UK airports currently operating.

Crew changes are not permitted at below ports/terminals:

  • Braefoot Bay (unless emergency)
  • Flotta
  • Pembroke - all terminals
  • Ineos LPG & Hound Point (Ineos J and E Jetties are still allowing)

These scams, which may seek to obtain your bank details or money transactions, are fraudulent. Please do not make any payment.
GAC Group’s email domain is gac.com; any others that purport to be from GAC are fake. We do not email individuals directly to solicit job applications. Please note that GAC Services (UK) Ltd. does not employ seafarers.
