28 Nov 2022 / Bangladesh

Water transport workers went on an indefinite countrywide work abstention on 27 November 2022, demanding an increase in minimum monthly wage.

As part of the abstention, lighter vessel workers stopped the unloading of imported goods from bigger vessels at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port and halted the transport of these goods across the country. Unloading of goods from lighter ships at 18 private ghats in the port city's Majhirghat and Sadarghat, and different areas of the country, including Dhaka and Narayanganj, were suspended.
