Strong quake strikes southern Turkey

At 04:17 hours local time this morning (6 February), Kahramanmaras in Turkey was hit by a 7.4 magnitude earthquake which was also felt in the other provinces in the south of the country.

According to the initial reports, hundreds of buildings collapsed, more than 100 people died, and many injured have also been reported. Rescue teams have been deployed.

So far, no official announcement has been made about the impact on ports/terminals in South Turkey but it is believed that these facilities have been affected, and delays in cargo operations can be expected.

Until further notice, all operational matters related to the south of Turkey will be handled by the GAC Istanbul office.
