Overview
Situated to the east of India, on the Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh came into being in 1947 together with the independent states of India and Pakistan. It has the world’s seventh largest population and is one the most densely populated nations on earth. Despite high poverty levels, per capita GDP has more than doubled since 1975, an average annual growth rate of 5% has been achieved since 1990, and it is now considered to be one of the “Next Eleven” emerging economies to watch. The capital, Dhaka, and key ports like Chittagong and Mongla have been the source of the driving force behind that growth.
Since late 2009, GAC-Uni-Global has provided professional port and shipping services to vessels calling at Bangaldeshi ports. The alliance combines GAC’s global reach and resources with the local experience and expertise of Uni-Global Business Ltd., a noted agency house headquartered in Dhaka and with branches Chittagong and Mongla.
