Overview
The Republic of Congo’s economy is dominated by the energy sector, with petroleum accounting for 88.5% of export earnings in 2010. Other significant exports are timber and minerals. The port of Pointe Noire is a gateway for importation into the country (as is the neighbouring Angolan province of Cabinda), and with less than 2% of land cultivated, over 80% of the country’s foodstuffs have to be imported.
In December 2011, GAC Shipping and Logistics Congo Sarl opened for business in response to increasing demand for professional shipping services at ports in the Gulf of Guinea. The company provides a range of ship agency, husbandry and freight forwarding services for customers operating in the Congo (Brazzaville), as well as providing additional support for GAC’s customers in Angola and around the world.
